Machinery Nation Puts New Petrol Post Driver Classic50 Model to the Test

Our friends over at Machinery Nation recently put the new Petrol Post Driver Classic50 model to the test by putting it through its paces in real-world conditions. Read on or watch the video below to see how James got on withthe powerful 50cc Honda engine!

Long-time Machinery Nation subscribers might remember that James has previously featured Easy Petrol Post Driver on the channel, but that was a different Post Driver model - now known as the Classic35. The Classic50 is a new model that retains the same durable and reliable engineering, but with extra horse power!

How is the New Petrol Post Driver Classic50 Model Different?

The new Petrol Post Driver Classic50 model, alongside our larger Max107 machine, represents the latest advancement in the Easy Petrol Post Driver product line. It boasts the same durable and reliable engineering that you’ve come to know and love from our existing Classic35 model, but it provides an extra kick – 0.7 more horse power to be exact – with a Honda GX50 engine for those slightly more challenging tasks. The extra horsepower comes with an added weight of 800g compared to our Classic35 model but it’s a small price to pay for more power, and the Classic50 is still lightweight enough to take out and about without being cumbersome.

Putting the New Classic50 Model to the Test

Are you installing wooden posts, Clipex fencing or even Marquee pegs? Trying to fence off awkward areas like the crest of a bank, tight corners of a field, or even very damp boggy ground where other machines might fail? The Petrol Post Driver handles it all with ease. A game-changing tool for people across many different industries, it's simple, efficient and gets the job done without the backbreaking work compared to traditional methods.

With the Petrol Post Driver already being one of James’ favourite products, claiming it’ll “transform your life”, the Classic50 had some big expectations to live up to.

James put the new Classic50 to the test by banging in some posts to see the difference. In their previous Petrol Post Driver video, Machinery Nation put the Classic35 up against a Drivall post rammer and did some time tests to see the difference. While a Drivall was quicker with one post, when you've got 10 or more to do the Petrol Post Driver really comes into its own, and he was sure that the bigger engine would make a big difference.

For this demonstration, James creates a fake scenario where he’s hired a contractor to put in some gate posts and straining posts, and that he’s invested in a Petrol Post Driver as a farmer to carry out the rest of the work himself and cut the costs of the contractor doing it all. He sets up gate posts and straining posts with a tractor post banger so that he can install all the intermediates with the Classic50. The ground on his land is soft for the first 12 inches and then gets very stony, so it’s a good test for this upgraded model.

You might be concerned that a bigger engine means more noise, but the upgraded GX50 Honda engine, in James’ own words, “purrs like a kitten” and is “so quiet, such a pleasure”.

Despite having to make some adjustments when setting up the two strut posts due to the very stony ground on his land, James sets up his stakes with no issues. For the last stake, he films it in real-time as opposed to a timelapse, to show exactly how the Classic50 gets to work and how easy it makes the job. He times himself and it takes just 54 seconds!

James comments on how he’s not out of breath like would be after using a manual post rammer, and that he doesn’t need the recovery time between each post that you’d need from manual methods either.

He also addresses the people that might be watching the video and thinking about how their mounted post banger can do more than a Petrol Post Driver can.

“The question is: Can a Petrol Post Driver do what that a tractor post banger can do? No, it can’t. Nowhere near. But the bigger question is: Can a tractor post banger do what the Petrol Post Driver can do? And the answer is still ‘no, it can’t’, because they’re two completely different tools for two completely different jobs.”

“Yes they can bang posts, stakes, Clipex or whatever in the ground, but the tractor can’t get to the places that the Petrol Post Driver can. So if you’re deer fencing in the woods, you’re in wet areas, or up on the comb of a hedge, the Petrol Post Driver is going to come into its own.”

“Would I buy one? Yes. Do I want to keep my post banger? Yes.”

James’ final verdict?: “I love that machine”. Need we say anything else?

A big thank you to the Machinery Nation team for putting the new Petrol Post Driver Classic50 model to the test and showing your subscribers what it can do. And a big congratulations for recently reaching the huge milestone of 100k subscribers on the channel!
